(R 2017 123 min.)

Baltimore, 1962. The routine of janitorial assistant Elisa Esposito (Sally Hawkins), a mute woman who works nights at a secretive government lab, is disrupted by the arrival of a singular aquatic being (Doug Jones) from South America. Insensitive, mean-spirited treatment of this creature by the lab’s new security officer (Michael Shannon) leads Elisa to befriend the amphibious humanoid and concoct a plan to spring him from captivity. Writer/director Guillermo Del Toro delivers an imaginative, haunting tale via a variety of genres which mesh in extraordinary fashion. Add Octavia Spencer and Richard Jenkins (as Elisa's friends) to a terrific cast and you've got one of the best films of 2017.

Nominated for 7 GOLDEN GLOBES: Best Picture, Director (Del Toro), Actress (Hawkins), Supporting Actress (Octivia Spencer), Supporting Actor (Richard Jenkins), Screenplay and Original Score, Winner of 2 - Director (Del Toro), and Original Score
