Opens Friday, July 4

Award-winning Russian filmmaker Sergei Bodrov (PRISONER OF THE MOUNTAINS) illuminates the life and legend of Genghis Khan in his stunning historical epic, MONGOL. Based on leading scholarly accounts and written by Bodrov and Arif Aliyev, MONGOL delves into the dramatic and harrowing early years of the ruler who was born as Temudgin in 1162. As it follows Temudgin from his perilous childhood to the battle that sealed his destiny, the film paints a multidimensional portrait of the future conqueror, revealing him not as the evil brute of hoary stereotype, but as an inspiring, fearless and visionary leader. MONGOL shows us the making of an extraordinary man, and the foundation on which so much of his greatness rested: his relationship with his wife, Borte, his lifelong love and most trusted advisor.

Coming in July

A box-office sensation in France, comic star Jean Dujardin stars as secret agent Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath, a.k.a. OSS 117 who in the tradition of Maxwell Smart and Inspector Clouseau somehow succeeds in spite of his ineptitude. After a fellow agent and close friend is murdered, Hubert is ordered to take his place at the head of a poultry firm in Cairo. This is to be his cover while he investigates Jack’s death, monitors the Suez Canal, checks up on the Brits and Soviets, burnishes France’s reputation, quells a fundamentalist rebellion and brokers peace in the Middle East. A blithe and witty send-up not only of spy films of that era and the suave secret agent figure but also neo-colonialism, ethnocentrism and the very idea of Western covert action in the Middle East.

Screening and post film Q&A with the director - Thursday, August 7

In August 2004, Jason Crigler, one of New York City’s most sought-after guitarists, suffered a brain hemorrhage during a concert in Manhattan. That night at the hospital, the doctors told Jason’s family—if he makes it through the night, there won’t be much left of him. Jason’s wife, Monica, pregnant at the time, froze. “Everything completely stopped. I forgot all about the pregnancy. I think I left my body. I remember thinking, ‘This cannot be true. I cannot go on without Jason.’”

Days passed, and Jason’s family was forced to accept the new dark reality at hand. But they refused to accept the dark future described by doubtful doctors. So in the face of wrenching despair and horrifying odds, the Criglers made a resolution—Jason will make a full recovery. And thus began the long, grueling, implausible and mystifying journey chronicled in Life. Support. Music.

Brideshead Revisited (PG-13) 2008, 100 min.

The Visitor

Coming this summer

A provocative and suspenseful drama, BRIDESHEAD REVISITED tells an evocative story of forbidden love and the loss of innocence set in the pre-WWII era. In the film, Charles Ryder (Matthew Goode, "Match Point,” “The Lookout”) becomes entranced with the noble Marchmain family, first through the charming and provocative Sebastian Flyte(Ben Whishaw, “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer”), and then his sophisticated sister, Julia (Hayley Atwell, “Cassandra’s Dream” and the upcoming “The Duchess”). The rise and fall of Charles’ infatuations reflect the decline of a decadent era in England between the wars. Academy Award-winner Emma Thompson co-stars as Lady Marchmain. The film, based on Evelyn Waugh’s acclaimed novel is adapted for the screen by multiple BAFTA Award-winner Andrew Davies (“Bridget Jones Diary,” “Bleak House”) and Jeremy Brock (“The Last King of Scotland”) and directed by Julian Jarrold (“Becoming Jane”).

My Brother is An Only Child (R) 2007, 108 min.

The Visitor

Coming in this Summer

MY BROTHER IS AN ONLY CHILD, which was presented at this year’s Cannes and Toronto film festivals, reunites director Luchetti with longtime collaborators Sandro Petraglia and Stefano Rulli, best known as screenwriters of the highly acclaimed “The Best of Youth.” The film tells the story of two brothers who want to change the world – but in completely different ways.

Accio (Elio Germano - Romanzo Criminale, Respiro) is the cause of his parents’ desperation; irritable and a trouble-maker, impulsive and explosive, fighting every battle like a war.

His brother Manrico (Riccardo Scamarcio- Eden is West, Romanzo Criminale, The Best of Youth) is handsome, charismatic, loved by all, but just as dangerous...

In the Italian small-town life of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s, the two brothers have opposite political beliefs, are in love with the same woman and through an endless confrontation, they live a period of their lives filled with escaping, re-tuning, fighting and great passions.

It is a story about growing up, where fifteen years of Italian history pass by as we experience the adventures of Accio and Manrico, two brothers, very different, yet so alike...
