COMMUNITY GALLERY
In July, the Community Gallery will feature an exhibit celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the League of NH Craftsmen
The League of NH Craftsmen encourages, nurtures and promotes the creation, use and preservation of fine craft through the inspiration and education of artists and the broader community. Founded in 1932, the League of NH Craftsmen is one of the oldest and most prestigious craft organizations in the country. The League was formed during the years of the Depression to help New Hampshire craftspeople make a living through difficult financial times, through education and by building an audience and market for fine handmade craft. The League continues this mission today and this year marks the League Fair's 75th anniversary, August 2-10, 2008.
July 24, Red River Theatres will screen Ken Browne's one-hour documentary, A League of Our Own: The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen and the American Crafts Movement, followed by a panel discussion with League Executive Director Susie Lowe-Stockwell, New London woodworker and League juror Peter Bloch and Canterbury fiber artist Jane Balshaw.
In our Gallery this month, there is an historical display of posters depicting the history of the annual League of NH Craftsmen Fair, 1933-2008.
In our glass case in the lobby we also have a representative display of works by juried members of the League, including pieces of wood, glass, fabric and metal.
