Q: How can I find out what is playing and what is coming soon?

A: The website is the best way to stay abreast of what movies are currently on the screens and what is coming up next. If you haven’t already done so, you can sign up to get our e-newsletter, Flick Flash, which goes out weekly and lists the week’s coming films. There is a marquee in the front foyer of the theater that lists showtimes for current films. You can also call our movie line at 224-4600.

Q: Is it true that the Concession Stand sells beer and wine?

A: Yes, after 5 pm, every day.

Q: What else is available at the Concession Stand?

A: Popcorn (with real butter!), candy and soda fountain drinks. In addition, we sell sandwiches made on premise by volunteer chefs from the Concord Cooperative Market, and bakery items from a revolving list of community bakers. We’ve also got coffee and tea!

Q: How is Red River Theatres different than other cineplexes?

A: Red River Theatres is a not-for-profit, community-supported movie theater which seeks to highlight independent film and New England filmmakers. This means that in addition to providing the best independent film selection available in the region, seven days a week, we also have a mission to provide community film events that bring meaning and discussion to our lives. The theater offers memberships and collaborative community programming, including the Somewhat North of Boston (SNOB) Film Festival and other special showings and presentations. Our goal is to make film an affordable and thoroughly enjoyable experience for all.

Q: What is an independent film?

A: An independent film is a movie that has not been produced by, or had its production controlled by, a major movie studio. Oftentimes independent films are made by individuals and once they are produced, major distribution companies pick the films up and promote them.

Q: Can I suggest a film or special event?

A: We are always interested in hearing from members of the community and from filmmakers as we plan our programming, which is largely set six to eight weeks out. Please see our Contact Us page. Our facilities are also available for rental if you would like to host your own event at Red River Theatres.

Q: Does the programming at Red River Theatres pay for itself?

A: Ticket sales generate only 40% of the revenues needed to run the theater, and facility rentals and continued fundraising will be needed annually to offset expenses. $1.83 million needed to be raised to build and launch Red River Theatres. We’ve raised over$1.78 million, thanks to the generous contributions of Concord and regional citizens and businesses, including Lincoln Financial Foundation and the Stonyfield Farm Fund. As of January 1, 2008, we need to raise an additional $57,000 to pay off our construction debts. With community support, this money can be quickly raised. If you’d like to make a tax-deductible donation, visit our Giving Opportunities page.

Q: Where does the name Red River Theatres come from?

A. The name Red River Theatres was inspired by the 1948 western adventure film classic Red River that starred John Wayne. It’s the story of a cattle drive filled with challenges and adversity in which the characters survive hardships and persevere to get the job done. The lengthy and at-times arduous task of establishing a new independent theatre in Concord invited the comparison and thus the name!

Q: How long has Red River Theatres been around?

A. Red River Theatres opened its doors in October 2007 after a 7-year community effort to raise $1.8 million to build the theater.

Q: How can I get involved?

A. Please see our Community link.
